FAQ’s about 7-12 Vball getting pushed to the spring.

Will KM be offering practices in the fall?

I'm fairly certain that the answer to this will be yes, but i have no idea how often or for what age groups yet.  In a perfect world, we'd be able to get in the gym a couple times a week at all levels (7-12).  But we haven't received any guidance from the school yet because the school hasn't received any guidance from the MSHSL yet.  As soon as i know anything i will let you know.  In the meantime, if you have the opportunity to sign up for a Fall league with one of the MN clubs that will be offering that, i would encourage you to do so.  Any practices that we do offer will be optional and nothing is guaranteed right now.  So if you can find other ways for your daughters to get guaranteed time in the gym then I would recommend that you go for it.

Will we have to choose between HS Volleyball at KM and Club Volleyball in the spring?

I'm hoping that the answer to this is no, but i don't know yet.  If you typically play for a smallish local club then i'm guessing that it won't be a problem.  If you play for a larger club like NL, M1, MN Select, etc then it will depend on what they decide to do with their schedules.  I was encouraged yesterday to see that Scott Jackson, the owner of MN Select, has already said that they are going to find a way to let kids play both HS and Club ball in the spring.  So i'm hoping that all of the larger clubs (that operate as a business and have to find ways to stay profitable) will be able to find a way to make this happen so that our kids don't have to choose one or the other.  No matter what happens, and no matter what our athletes decide to do, I will support our athletes and their families and respect the choices that they make.

Will KVBC be shifting their club season so that it doesn't conflict with HS vball in the spring?

I don't know yet, but if i had to guess i would say that it is likely. I could see a scenario in which KVBC starts practices in Mid-Oct, starts competitions in mid-November, and then finishes up in early March. The sanctioning body that we've used over the last couple of years (JVA) will be meeting this Friday to discuss their plans for the club season and what we end up being able to do will likely be determined in large part by what they recommend.

Also, it will depend heavily on if the schools allow use of their gyms for practices and to host competitions or scrimmages. If schools say no to having multiple teams from various cities in a gym, then the only tournaments will be events that are held in non-school facilities, which could really limit the options that we have. If NVC in Rochester ends up being able to host tourneys again that would be great, but if the schools say no to hosting competitions it wouldn't surprise me if NVC also says no.

With regards to practices, it is possible that once winter sports start, the schools will have less gym time available than in past years because they may have to require school teams to practice in smaller groups due to the pandemic, which would mean more practice sessions for school teams and less gym time for everyone else.

Mask Mandate

As of 7/25/2020, the state of MN is requiring individuals to wear masks inside any business or public settings, which includes schools. All individuals should wear masks as they arrive for practices, training sessions, or camps.  Individuals will be able to take their masks off if the level of exertion makes it difficult to wear them. Individuals will be able to take their masks off if they are publicly speaking AND if they are able to maintain proper social distancing of at least 6ft between them and any other individuals.

*** NOTE: Individuals with a medical condition, mental health condition, or disability that makes it unreasonable for the individual to maintain a face covering will not be required to wear a mask. Individuals in authority are not allowed to require anyone to provide proof of a medical condition, mental health condition, or disability, or require anyone to explain the nature of their conditions or disability, and are not authorized to restrain, assault or physically remove individuals who refuse to comply.
